Reported to Police

I got reported to Police for a lapse in my Permanent Residency card. Well, I signed up long before the expiration date, they just didn't have time available for months to take my application in person, or how to expedite the renewal process. And their website tells me nothing to worry about, or that I would need to do daily wait in the freezing early January weather. Also, during the interview, I was not informed about this being a police matter either. I was told that things were hunky-dory, and just to wait for the new card to arrive. I just hope this will not severely affect my eventual application for citizenship in the coming years.
